NEW ZEALAND HISTORIC MAIL, two undated WWII censored covers headed, ON ACTIVE SERVICE, mailed from R.J.Searle to Allan Sutherland in Wellington, one on a National Patriotic Fund envelope with cancelleds N.Z.E.F. and N.Z.A.P.O.4 with triangular handstamp SERVICE CENSOR and signature, I.M.Wilton (censor), the other with similar handstamp and signed, P.Howland (censor). Very fine. (2)

Allan Sutherland (1900-1967) was later editor of Hansard, the Parliamentary record and author of A Numismatic History of New Zealand. Signalman R.J.Searle,service no.46885, 3Div NZ Sigs, served in New Caledonia and the Solomon Islands and later became Secretary of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand.
