NICHOLAS II, (1894 - 1917), 1917 dated Medal or ’Family Rouble’ comprising 50 medals or pattern roubles in golden alloy, 50 medals or pattern roubles in high grade copper, and 50 in nickel silver, struck to a prooflike/proof finish in limited quantities, FDC. (150)

From a total mintage of only 750 pieces of each metal. An unprepared Russia was dragged into the Great War in 1914 and a war of attrition saw the nation overwhelmed by the armies of the German and Austro-Hungarian empires. Nicholas abdicated in 1917, as the capital and the nation became ungovernable. The Czar with his beautiful daughters (Alexei, Anastasia Tatiana, Marie, Olga) his wife, and son Alexei, were imprisoned and later killed by the Bolsheviks, and the empire ended.
