CHARLES I, (1625 - 1649), Tower mint under king, silver crown, mm tun, issued 1636-8, Group III, type 3b, (29.91 grams), rev. plume over shield, with four pellets either side of mint mark, (S.2759, N.2196, Cooper XVII/XXIII, Brooker 261 [same dies]). Toned and round, attractive, fine/very fine and rare.

Ex Spink, London, March 1985 and previously from the Lord (Rodney) Smith of Marlow Collection (item 53), previously from the W.E. Ashley Collection purchased by Spink in 1969, from the Herbert M. Lingford Collection but not in the sale and from the Harry Alexander Parsons Collection, sold in Glendining’s London 11 May 1954 (lot 422) with tickets.
