SYDNEY HOUSE, Adelaide, South Australia, ten shillings, Adelaide 18_, No.235, written in signature reserve 'paper money issued by Isaac Solomon in early days of South Australia' (MVR.fig.26, p.21). Stuck on old backing paper with traces of newspaper 1887(?) otherwise very fne and very rare.
Vort Ronald states these notes were issued by Emmanuel Solomon, a prominent Jewish property owner and were issued in the period 1838-44 (see ADB pp.163-4). Isaac, a brother, was an auctioneer in Adelaide in the early 1840s.
