Son, Group of Five: 1939-45 Star; Pacific Star; Defence Medal 1939-45; War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal 1939-45. NX57744 J.H.Simmons. All medals impressed. The second group swing mounted. Extremely fine.

2661 Private George Simmons, born near Braidwood, a fireman from Maitland, N.S.W; Enl.07Sep1916 at Rutherford into 5th Reinforcements 35th Bn; Emb.25Oct1916 ex Sydney on HMAT Ascanius; Disemb.28Dec1916 at Devonport; 30Mar1916 to France; MIA 12Oct1916; subsequently amended to KIA 12Oct1916 at Passchendaele Ridge during third battle of Ypres; his personal effects were forwarded to Australia via S.S.Barunga which was lost at sea as result of enemy action; Pte Simmons' body was never recovered and he is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.
