WARWICKSHIRE, Atherstone, Sir George Chetwynd, penny size private token, lettered edge, by B. Wyon (Bell A1, Davis, Warwickshire, 731 D&W 343/14). Even blue brown patina, proof-like uncirculated and extremely rare.
Ex W.J. Noble Collection, Sale 61B (lot 380) and W. Norman (lot 18) Collection and purchased from A.H. Baldwin & Sons Ltd. in 1987. Sir George Chetwynd (1783-1850) formed the finest collection of tokens including the pick of Mathew Young's Collection in 1831 and the collection of John Harding of Staffordshire.
