COMMODUS, (A.D. 177-192), silver denarius, Rome mint, issued A.D. 184, (2.768 grams), obv. laureate head of Commodus to right, around M COMMODVS ANTON AVG PIVS, rev. around P M TR P [VIIII IMP] VI COS IIII P P, Victory naked to waist writing on shield attached to palm tree a captive seated to right below, (S.5671, RIC 79, RSC 438, BMC 127). Toned, good very fine/very fine and scarce.

Ex Patrick Cooper Collection with his ticket, bought from Coin Mart, Villiers St. October 1983. The Reka Devnia hoard contained 81,044 silver coins, including 3146 of Commodus but only contained 20 coins of this variety.
