GEORGE III, Resolution and Adventure medal, 1772, in platina (brass) by Matthew Boulton (B:F. on truncation) (44mm) (MH.373, BHM.165, Klenman 1). Struck from the first (or cracked) reverse die. Pierced for wear, suspension ring missing, very fine and rare.

Ex. Noble Numismatics Sale No.58 (lot 2897) and Sale 50 (lot 874). These medals from the first die were distributed to the natives by Captain James Cook on his second voyage. They were produced under the direction of Sir Joseph Banks.
