IONIA, Ephesos, (c. 90-89 B.C.), silver cistophoric tetradrachm, (12.61 grams), year 41 = 94-93 B.C., obv. cista mystica containing serpent, all within ivy wreath, rev. bow in case between two coiled serpents, to left MA over monogram **EFE, to right torch, serpent staff above, (cf.S.4745, Kleiner 44 [ANS MN 18, Series 10, [p.26], Pinder -, SNG Cop. -, SNG von Aulock 7850). Extremely fine with original mint bloom, well centred and extremely rare.

De Callatay in his recent book "L'Historie les Guerres Mithradatiques un par le Monnaies, (p.161), records only one example of this date.
