MACEDON, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), silver drachm, (4.262 grams), Miletus mint, issued c.325-323 B.C., obv. head of Herakles to right wearing lion skin with dotted border, rev. Zeus seated on throne to left, eagle in outstretched hand, thunderbolt to left, under throne **HD* monogram, to right **ALEXANDROU*. (cf.S.6730, Price 2088, BMC 2088a-h, M.-, SNG Fitz.2227, THompson NS 16 32-53 [27 examples recorded]). Slightly off centred obverse, extremely fine and scarce.
