CONSTANTINE VI AND IRENE, (780-797), gold solidus, Constantinople mint, issued 792-7, (4.366 grams), obv. bust facing of Irene wearing crown and loros and holding cross on globe and cruciform sceptre, around **HRHNI AV**GUSTH, rev. bust of Constantine VI facing beardless wearing crown and chlamys, holding cross on globe, around CONSTAN TINOS BAS', (S.1594 [£2000 EF], BMC 4, DOW 3c). Slightly irregular shaped flan, otherwise nearly extremely fine/extremely fine and a very rare variety.
