MOESIA INFERIOR, Nicopolis ad Istrum, Gordian III, (A.D. 238-244), AE 27, (12.066 grams), obv. laureate draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian III to right, around AVT K M ANT**W GORDIAN*OC, rev. Athena standing left, holding reversed spear and with coiled serpent round olive tree before, around [V**P* CAB **MODE*CTOV] N I KO**POLEITWN PRO*C, ICTPON downwards in right field, (cf.S.6348, Vabanov 4179, Pick 2053). Black patina, with off centred reverse, otherwise good very fine and rare.

Ex Spink & Son, London, with tickets. An issue by the Roman Magistrate Sab. Modestus.
