SICILY, Syracuse, (c.460-450 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (17.176 grams), obv. slow quadriga driven to right by male charioteer holding reins in both hands and a kentron, Nike flying right crowning horses, ketos in exergue, rev. **SU*R**AKOS*ION around to right, head of Artemis-Arethusa to right, hair rolled and tucked under diadem, four dolphins clockwise around, (cf.S.925, Boehringer 535.2 [This Coin, obverse 274/reverse 370], Jameson 768 [This Coin], SNG ANS 173 [same dies]). Toned nearly extremely fine and very rare.

Ex Antiquarius, New Zealand and previously Spink & Son, London, with their tickets, From the R. Jameson Collection who acquired it from Sir Arthur John Evans Collection, he acquired it from the Treasure find at Villabate near Palerno (See Num. Chron. 1894 [p.201-216], this coin No.27 [p.202 and This Coin, illustrated Plate VII, 2] and published by Sir Arthur John Evans. Boehringer notes only 4 specimens from these dies including this example.
