SICILY, Selinus, (510-480 B.C.), bronze example of the (silver) didrachm, (8.354 grams), obv. selinon leaf with even flat ridge pattern on leaves, rev. incuse square with interior border containing a selinon leaf, (cf.S.731, cf.SNG Cop. 594, [Pl. 13]). Dark green patina, with surface marks, otherwise very fine and rare.

Ex Hans Hermann Gutknecht Collection, sold in Munzen & Medaillen, Weil am Rhein, Auction Sale 17, October 4, 2005 (Lot 281). The probability was in ancient times this was silvered to pass as a silver didrachm and hence a fouree. Unusually it is of correct weight.

All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
