ITALY, Lucania, Metapontum, (c.400-350 B.C.), silver nomos, stater or didrachm, (7.364 grams), obv. female head of Demeter to right with spendone, poppy or lotus bud below chin, rev. corn ear, META to left upwards, leaf to right with grasshopper upwards, (cf.S.409, Noe 406 [same dies], SNG Lockett 384 [same dies], SNG Fitz. 171 (Lewis Collection), Naville VI, No.166 [same dies]). Toned, nearly very fine and a rare type.
