EDWARD THE CONFESSOR, (1042-1066), silver penny, trefoil/quatrefoil type, issued 1042, (0.96 grams), obv. EDPE RD REC, diademed bust of king to left with sceptre, rev. GOLDPINE ON HER ? (Goldwine of Hertford ?), with short cross voided, quadrilateral ornament with three pellets in each angle and one in centre,(S.1174, N.817, BMC iii [cf.No.534]). Toned, flan crack, very fine and rare.

Ex R. Cullum Collection, purchased from B.A. Seaby, Ltd, London, April 18, 1945 for 12/6.
