JULIA MAESA, grandmother of Elagabalus, (A.D. 218-222), silver denarius, Rome mint, (2.79 grams), obv. draped bust of Julia Maesa to right, around IVLIA MAESA AVG, rev. PIETAS AVG, Pietas standing to left, sacrificing over altar and holding box of incense, (S.7754, RIC 263, [Elagabalus], RSC 29). Nearly extremely fine and scarce.

The Reka Devnia hoard of 81,044 silver coins contained 1141 coins of Julia Maesa, but only 110 coins of this variety.
