IONIA, Smyrna, Caracalla, (A.D. 198-217), AE 32, (13.93 grams), issued 198obv. youthful Caracalla laureate bust draped and cuirassed to right, around legend AVT. K. M. AVP ANT**W*NEINOC, rev. Caracalla standing to left holding patera and spear, before him an altar, he being crowned by Nike holding branch to left, holding a patera and cornucopiae, around **EPI* CTP K P OV**F*N*, CMVPN in exergue, (cf.S.2548, Klose Series A, group a, No.3 [same dies, Obv.1, rev. 3], SNG Cop. 1386, SNG von Aulock 8006). Light brown patina, very fine and rare.

Klose notes 5 examples of varierty and a total of 18 examples for type mostly all in public collections.
