CEYLON, (Sri Lanka), token countermarked TC on halfpenny 1739, (Pr.115 and Numismatic Circular 1960, p.131-2). Countermark very fine, host coin poor.

Ex Noble Numismatics Sale 59 (lot 2582). Pridmore in his detailed discussion on this issue (see above reference), notes that the nine host coins known come from Sumatra, Madras, Ceylon, Nova Scotia, U.S.A. and Peru. This example appears to be the first on a coin of Great Britain. Pridmore places the issue between 1860-1890.
