ITALY, Lucania, Metapontum, (c. 300 B.C.), silver stater or nomos, (7.826 grams), obv. three quarter facing bust of Demeter partially to right, wearing corn wreath, to right in field A[G], rev. ear of corn, META upwards to left, **A[QA]* to right, leaf with bucranium above, (S.417; BMC 117 [same dies]; Johnston [NN&M 164] Class C, 2.5 [same dies]). Nearly very fine and very rare.

Ex Noble Numismatics Sale 78 (lot 4927). Johnston records nine known specimens of this facing Demeter type from three different obverse dies. Only one die duplicate of this coin recorded.
