IPM. Gazette of India.: No.21 26May1945 pp.605-606. 'At about 5pm on 24th October, 1944, Mohd Amir entered the Sadar Bazar in Peshewar armed with a knife, ran amok and started assaulting all Sikhs and Hindus. He stabbed one Sikh shopkeeper and ran off chased by another Sikh bystander who raised the alarm. Head Constable Harbans Lal, whose house was nearby, looking out, saw pedestrians fleeing from the path of this homicidal maniac and at onceran down the street in pursuit. The criminal, pressed by the original pusuer, turned and knifed him, by this time all other spectators had fled in terror except Lance Head Constable Noor Mohammed, on duty further along the Bazar, who took up the chase armed only with a bamboo. Head Constable Harbans Lal also seized a bamboo from a shop front and the twp policemen caught up with the criminal, who by this time had stabbed more Hindus in his flight down the Bazar. The two policemen brought the criminal to bay and between them overpowered him after a desperate fight in which both Police Officers sustained knife wounds.'
