ITALY, Lucania, Metapontum, (c.300-285 B.C.), silver stater or nomos, (7.92 grams), obv. Demeter head wearing corn wreath to left, rev. ear of corn, META upwards to right, griffin to right above leaf, **LU* below leaf, (cf.S.416, [Å“175], Johnston NN&M 164 series C6.6 [same dies], BMC 108-9 [similar dies], cf.SNG ANS 489-493 [similar dies]). Bright, weak in places otherwise very fine, rare.
