Estimate $50,000
Bid at live.noble.com.au
SOLD $45,000

GEORGE V, Melbourne Mint proof or specimen set, 1916M, florin, shilling, sixpence and threepence. Has been dipped, the sixpence and threepence with brilliant fields, the florin and shilling frosted, the shilling also with characteristic 45ø die rotation, nearly FDC and very rare. (4)

The florin has minor hairline die breaks on the reverse, which is unusual for proof strikings but not for these first ever issues of specimen coins by the Mint. This set, acquired from Downies in 1995, is sold with their ticket.

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
