M. CAECILIUS, Q.f. Q.n. Metellus, (127 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, (3.858 grams), obv. Roma helmeted head right, * below chin, [R]OMA upwards behind, rev. Macedonian shield on which is an elephant's head, all within wreath, M.METELLVS Q.F. around, (S.139 [£55 VF], Cr.263/1a, Syd.480). Even grey patina, good very fine and scarce.

Ex Dr. Charles E. Weber Collection and previously from Jonathern Kern, USA, Febrauary 28, 1992. Only 44 obverse dies was used for this coinage according to Crawford.
