ATTICA, Athens, (166-57 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.784 grams), Late period issue, 124-123 B.C., (Thompson date) but probably 92-1 B.C. (revised chronology), obv. head of Athena Parthenos to right wearing triple-crested Athenian helmet, ornamented with Pegasus, rev. owl standing to right, head facing, in erect posture, on prostrate amphora, dolphin on trident on right, legend across **A QE, XE NO*, to left **KLHS APMO XE*, all within wreath, (cf.S.2555, cf.Thompson 1080 same obverse die, uncertain reverse die). Nearly extremely fine and rare.

Ex Dr. Colin Burnside Collection, and previously from Noble Numismatics Sale 62 (lot 1888).
