THESSALY, Thessalian League, (c.196-mid 1st century B.C.), silver double victoriatus, (4.936 grams), Larissa mint, obv. head of Zeus to right, crowned with oak leaves, behind **[PT]OLEMAIOU*, rev. Athena Itonia advancing to right, brandishing spear and holding shield, on sides **QESSA LW[N]*, above across and between figure **A RIS, /TO KL/H*, (cf.S.2232, McClean 4841 [p.234, Pl.178,11]). Bright, nearly extremely fine and rare.
