PAEONIA, Kingdom of, Patraos, (c.340-315 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (12.595 grams), obv. head of Apollo to right, with laureate, rev. horseman spearing fallen enemy, who holds spear and shield, around below **PATRAOU, MH monogram above left, (S.1520, Paeonian Hoard 242-55 [same dies], BMC 6, Weber 2232 [same dies]). Obverse off centred, otherwise very fine/good very fine and a rare type.
Ex Paeonian Hoard, Sotheby's, London, 16th April 1969 (lot 516 part incorrectly numbered catalogue reference) and Jay P. Dawley collection (CNG sale December 5, 1995 (lot 1847, illustrated) and Noble Numismatics Sale 66 (lot 3313). The Sotheby sale of the Paeonian hoard (London, 16th April, 1969, had lots 242-5 from the same dies.
