SICILY, Messana, (480-461 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.182 grams), obv. biga of mules driven to right by seated male charioteer, in exergue olive leaf, rev. **MESSE N ION* (some letters reversed), hare running to right, (S.842 [£500], Caltabiano -/211-3 [obv.die -, rev. die 114, no specimens known from this die combination], Randazoo same reverse die as No.170). Flan flaw near edge of reverse, otherwise fine and a very rare and a previously unpublished die combination.
