CHINA, Republic, General Issue, pattern silver dollar by L. Georgi, dated year 3, (1914), obv. Yuan Shi Kai three-quarter to left in civilian dress, rev. open wreath of barley enclosing characters one yuan, (KM. -, Kann 643a). Brilliant, surface hairlines, otherwise as struck, good extremely fine - uncirculated and very rare.

Yuan Shih Kai was one of China's most outstanding statesman. President of China from 1912 to 1914. In 1915 a movement began for the re-establishment of the monarchy with Yuan Shih Kai as emperor but was postponed because of a revolt in Yunnan Province. He died on June 6, 1916 ending the hopes of the return to the monarchy under the emperor.
