CALIGULA AND GERMANICUS, (A.D. 37-41), silver denarius, Lugdunum mint, issued A.D. 37-38, (3.5 grams), obv. Laureate head of Caligula to r., around C CAESAR AVG GERM P M TR POT, rev. Germanicus head to r., around, GERMANICVS CAES P C CAES AVG GERM, (RIC 12, BMC 13, cf.S.598). Scratch on Germanicus cheek, rough uneven surface, very fine and very rare.

These issues by Caligula bearing Germanicus name and portrait were struck nearly twenty years after Germanicus death. Caligula was his son, one of nine children by Germanicus and Agrippina Senior.
