MARK ANTONY, (died 30 B.C.), silver denarius, (3.43 grams), issued for Lucius Pinarius Scarpus, 31 B.C., Cyrenaica mint, obv. M ANTO COS III IMP IIII head of Jupiter Ammon to right, rev. ANTONIO AVG SCARPVS IMP Victory walking right, (S.417, Cr. 546/2b, Syd. 1280, Antonia 98). Very fine and very rare.

Lucius Pinarius Scarpus was the grandson of a sister of Julius Caesar, and heir to the eighth of his property. He commanded for Antony in the war against Brutus and cassius and shortly before the battle of Actium was placed by Antony in charge of Cyrene with the command of four legions who were paid with these specially struck coins.
