ANDRONICUS II AND ANDRONICUS III, (1325-1334), second joint reign, gold hyperpyron (scyphate), issued c.1325-28, (4.0 grams), obv. Andronicus II and III to left and right with Christ standing between crowning both emperors, partial legend downwards of emperor's names, rev. bust of Virgin within city walls of four towers, */K to left, */X to right, (S.2396, Bendall p.108 type I, see also p.134-6 Num. Circ. June 1961, Type E). Small flan, edge crack and split, otherwise good very fine for issue and a scarce variant.
