REPUBLIC, C. Vibius Varus, (c.42 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, (4.00 grams), obv. ivy wreathed head of Liber to right, border of dots, rev. panther springing to left towards garlanded altar surmounted by mask, thyrsus in background, C. VIBIVS in exergue, trace of VARVS on right, (S.331, Cr.494/36, Syd.1138). Lightly toned, off centre on reverse, superb obverse, extremely fine.
