Bid at live.noble.com.au
SOLD $70

REPUBLIC, C. Renius, (c.138 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, obv. Roma head to right, X behind, rev. Juno Caprotina in biga of goats, C.RENI below goats, ROMA in exergue. (S.199; Cr.231/1, Syd.432). Very fine.

From the type it must be assumed that this family came from Lanuvium where Juno Caprotina was especially worshipped. This is one of the earliest denarii where the type is a direct reference to family history.
