Lot 1731       Imperial Sovereigns

Estimate $35,000
Bid at live.noble.com.au
SOLD $41,000

GEORGE V, 1926 Sydney. Full original satin like surface with very high rims, minute rim filing at 11 o'clock on obverse and flaw in face of St George takes away from perfection as a specimen (or proof) striking, nearly FDC and extremely rare, one of the best three known. Almost certainly one of the few sovereigns struck in the final days prior to the closure of the Sydney mint. Item 55 in A.H. Spencer's catalogue of Sir William Dixson's Collection describes eight sovereigns while item 91 describes an invoice and receipt for payment of bullion for minting 50 sovereigns on 11/8/1926, the typed statement signed by Robert C. Dixson.

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price.
