MISCELLANEOUS DYNASTIES, Sarbadars, Hasan Damghani, (A.H. 759-763) (A.D. 1358-1362), silver four dirhams, Damaghan mint, A.H. 765 = A.D. 1363-4, (A.2338, M.1870), another Astarabad mint, A.H. 763 = A.D. 1361-2, (A.2338, cf.M.1870), Aq Qoyunlu, Ya`qub (A.H. 883-896) (A.D. 1478-1490), silver tanka, Kashen mint, overstruck on Shahruki tanka (A.2524/2405), another Muhammad (A.H. 903-905), (A.D. 1498-1500), silver third tanka, Shiraz mint, nd, (A.2543, M.1844). Fine-very fine, some rare. (4)

ex Steve Album private purchase 1979, all except the third coin ex Glendining's 1964. The Sarbadars ('Gallowbirds') were a Shiite sect in northeast Iran, who took control of the region after A.D.1340, until swept away by Timur in A.D.1384. The coinage is anonymous but is assigned to ruler by date and type. The Aq Qoyunlu (are the 'White Sheep Turkomans' from north west Anatolia, and took control for a short period of most of Iran and Iraq. After Hasan conquests of A.H. 872-3, they extended the range of mints in Iran and Iraq.
