Lot 2529       Greek Silver & Bronze

Estimate $100
Bid at live.noble.com.au
SOLD $280

PARTHIA, Orodes II, (57-38 B.C.), drachm, Ecbatana mint, obv. short bearded bust to l., wearing torque (Sell. type ii), rev. archer enthroned to r., mint mark below, (S.7441, Sell.45.9). Good very fine.

This reverse inscription was adopted as the norm by nearly all successors of Orodes, however mechanical copying and ignorance of Greek by the die engravers led to the deterioration of the legends into an almost unrecognizable form.

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
