THE LU'LU'ID DYNASTY, Badr al-Din Lulu, (A.H. 631-657) (A.D. 1233-1258), copper dirham, pictorial type, obv. diademed head to left in square, star under chin, rev. citing Caliph Al Mustansir, year A.H. 631 = A.D. 1233-1234, (A.1874, M.1131). First on small flan, very fine, second on larger flan, fine, both scarce. (2)
The Lu'Lu'ids were the successors to the Zangids at Mosul. Badr al-Din Lu'lu; was originally a slave of Arlanshah I of Mosul, then regent after the latter's death in 1211, finally independent ruler after the death of Mahmud in 1233.
