NORMAN KINGDOM OF SICILY, William II in Salerno, (A.D. 1166-1189), base gold tari, (0.85 grams), mint and date missing, obv. central letter W, Arabic script in lines across, rev. star in centre, Arabic script in lines across naming William II, (Spahr -, Cappelli 218 [p.67], cf.CNI XXI, 14 and No.1 [p.344]). Very fine and extremely rare.

Remo Cappelli, 'Studio Sulle Monete Della Zecca di Salerno', Rome 1972, in this study describes the issue as RRR with only a few specimens known. an interesting issue wilth full Arabic script and the latin letter W in the centre.
