GALERIUS, (A.D. 305-311), gold aureus, Nicomedia mint, (5.37 grams), issue c. 294 as Caesar, pre-reform coinage, obv. laureate head, of Galerius to right, around MAXIMIANVS NOB CAES, rev. around IOVI CONSE RVATORI, in exergue SMN, Jupiter standing to left, chlamys hanging behind, holding thunderbolt, leaning on sceptre, (S.-, RIC 6 [p.554 Vol.VI],, C.122). Extremely fine and extremely rare.
