A PORTUGESE TROMPE L'OEIL CERAMIC DISH, approximately 21 cm. diameter, decorated with a snake, a beetle and the remains of a frog in high relief. Damaged, and a large piece missing.

Ceramic dishes in the style of Palissy of France were very popular in the 19th century and were produced extensively in France, Spain and Portugal. It is know suprise that such a piece should be found among the few artefacts salvaged from the 'Douro'. See colour illustration.
