HERACLIUS, (610-641), gold solidus, Constantinople mint, issued 613-616, (4.37 grams), Officina E, obv. facing busts with exergual line below busts of Heraclius with short beard and smaller than usual bust of Heraclius Constantine, wearing chlamys, flat crown with cross, around [dN] NN hERACLIVS ET hERA CONS[t PP A], cross above, rev. cross potent on base and three steps, below CONOB, around VICTORIA [AV]GUE, (S.734 var., DOC.8e var., cf.BMC 18-21, a similar specimen in Baldwin's Sale No.5 Donald Colln. lot 84). Overstruck on another issue, weak in places but with mint bloom, neat style, otherwise extremely fine/very fine, scarce.
