SOLD $1,000

THRACE, Kingdom of, Lysimachos, (323-281 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.93 grams), Uncertain mint, issued 297-281 B.C., obv. head of Alexander to right, with diadem and horn of Ammon, within dotted circle, rev. Athena enthroned to left, supporting Nike, spear behind, monogram before **PMATE*, to left **BASILEWS* to right **LUSIMAXOU*, (cf.S.6814, M.530, Thompson -). Well centred, good very fine and very rare.

Ex. Spink & Son, with their ticket. The style and fabric suggests a life time mint, but while many similar monograms are noted by Thompson, this one is not identified, suggesting a very minor mint in the Pergamon area.
