MACEDON, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), gold stater, (8.606 grams), `Amphipolis' mint, issued 328-323 B.C., obv. head of Athena to right in crested Corinthian helmet, ornamented with serpent, rev. Nike standing to left, holding wreath in outstretched hand, kantharos in left field, to right **[A]LEXANDPOU*, (cf.S.6702; Price 168, M.193, BMC 168a-d). Has been mounted with edge filing, crimped at edge by clamp, otherwise nearly very fine.
