MACEDON, Kingdom of, Philip II, (359-336 B.C.), gold quarter stater, (2.120 grams), Pella mint, issued posthumously, during the reign of Alexander the Great, 340/338-328 B.C.; obv. head of Zeus laureate to right, rev. bow over club to right, across field **FILIPPOU*, above trident. (S.6669 [£350], SNG ANS 224-7, Le Rider Pl.84, 76 [same dies, obv.51, rev.36]). Attractive, very fine and rare.
