BURMA, Tenasserin, Ganza, (c.1593-1824), copper-tin alloy piece, (415 g), depicting large serpentine creature to right, (Robinson & Shaw-pg. 38 (Phayre plate III), cf.Mitchiner-2862). Earthen deposits, very fine and very rare.

Produced from a copper-tin alloy for use in the coastal trading provinces. Best known for their use in Tenassarim, but were also used in Pegu. These were probably produced under Thai suzerainty from 1593 until 1785 when the Burmese king Bodawpaya occupied Tenassarim. Finally ceasing production under the British occupation in 1824.
