FREE WATERMAN BADGE, Thames, City of London, c1820s, in a copper plate layer applied over pressed bronze plate, (circular 120mm), features City of London's arms over a plaque in which is engraved the licence number, '6022', below is the arms of the Free Watermen, the badge was worn as a brassard by being sewn to the sleeve of the waterman's coat. Very fine and rare.

Badge No. 6022 was issued to James Isleworth Dyckhoff, see article in The Australiana Society, Australiana magazine, Vol 29 No 1, February 2007, Licensed Boatman badges by Les Carlisle.
