ROMAN SCHOOL, 16th century, Alessandro Cesati (active 1538-1564), Dido, Queen of Carthage, North Africa, bronze medal 42mm, (47.88 g), obv. Queen Dido bust to right, legend in Greek **DIDW BASILISSA*, rev. view of Carthage, with galleys in harbour before it, to left worn trace of legend **KARCHDWN*, (Kress Collection No.368 [p.69]). All known specimens appear to be cast as is this example, original was die struck, holed, very fine and very rare.

Ex Baldwin's Auction Sale 39, 12th October 2004 (lot 1954) and Noble Numismatics Sale 92 (lot 2965).
