ITALY, Calabria, Tarentum, (c.315-302 B.C.), silver nomos or stater, obv. nude warrior, holding two spears in left hand, preparing to throw a third in his right hand, shield on left arm, on horseback to right, **X* behind, API below, rev. Phalanthos, holding kantharos in extended right hand, oar in left, riding dolphin left; K**L* before, TAPA**S* behind, (cf.S.345, Fischer-Bossert 914 (V357/R709), Vlasto 640 (same obv. die), HN Italy 939, BMC 208 [same dies], Pozzi 123 [same obv. die]). Very fine and attractively toned, the coin housed in frame with plate description below.

Ex Drewry Collection from Glendinings, London April 7, 1971 (Lot 7 part) and exhibited (with this frame) at Copperfield Galleries, Mosman, NSW in November 1976.
