MC GROUP OF EIGHT: Military Cross (GRI); 1914-15 Star; British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19; Defence Medal 1939-45; War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal 1939-45; France, Croix de Guerre with Star. The first and last unnamed, 1267 Pte J.M.L. Macpherson 20/Bn. A.I.F. on second medal, 2.Lieut. J.M.L. Macpherson on third and fourth medals, NX422 J.M.L. Macpherson on fifth and sixth medals, N422 J.M.L. Macpherson on seventh medal. All named medals impressed. Fine - very fine.

Citation: 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When two gun-pits were blown in by heavy high-explosive and gas shell bombardment this officer organised a party and dug out the detachments. He was knocked down twice by the explosion of shells, but persisted in the attempt and was successful. He showed fine courage and devotion to duty.'

Jack Machattie Lord Macpherson, shop assistant, age 18, born at Condoblin, NSW; Enl.04Apr1915 at Liverpool, NSW; Emb.25Jun1915; to Officer Training College in England 01Dec1916; Disch.19May1917 ex 5 MG Coy when granted a commission in the Imperial Army as 2Lt RFA; Discharged in England and returned to Australia to enlist in the AMF, Australian Instructional Corps, 04Feb1922, as Warrant Officer II; Disch.06Dec1923 at own request; Enlisted in Permanent Forces again 01Jul1937 as Warrant Officer Class II and Disch.03Sep1939 to take up a commission as Captain; his WWII service was with Permanent Military Forces 03Sep1939-30Apr1940, AIF 01May1940-30Jun1947 and Interim Army 01Jul1947-14May1952.
